Stamp review: Mikve Israel -- 150 Years (2020-04-21)

בול 150 שנה למקווה ישראל עיצוב: צביקה רויטמן "Mikve Israel – 150 Years" stamp The " Mikve Israel – 150 Years " stamp was issued by Israel Post on 21 April 2020 to mark the sesquicentennial of the first agricultural school in the land of Israel. Face valued at ₪4.10, corresponding to the postage rate for an unregistered domestic 0-200g oversized letter, the stamp shows Mikve Israel 's historic synagogue with its iconic palm trees, foregrounded by a tractor beside which a young man and woman are seated on a bench with a laptop computer and a book. The tab below the stamp depicts the Mikve Israel emblem -- a farmer holding a seed basket in a plowed field, an ear of wheat on the right, and an olive branch on the left. Green, off-white, yellow, and blue are the stamp's prominent colors. Commentary: EUROPA Stamps Competition 2020

2020 EUROPA Stamps Competition The EUROPA Stamps Competition is a competition held annually to determine the best design among fifty stamps bearing the "EUROPA" logo and corresponding to a prespecified theme. It is organized by PostEurop , an agency headquartered in Brussels with roots stretching back to the 1950s. Voting traditionally begins on May 9th, Europe Day , and lasts four months. The first EUROPA competition, which was won by a Maltese stamp, was held in 2002. Last year, a panel of judges chose a Slovenian stamp as the winner while online voters went with an Armenian one. The theme of 2020's competition is "Ancient Postal Routes." Predictably, almost all the stamps feature historic maps and/or historic mail couriers. On the one hand, the fact that Israel is not a member of PostEurop means this blog does not have a proverbial horse in the race and is not biased in favor of or against any of the participating stamps. בול 75 שנה לשחרור מחנות הריכוז: התקומה Concentration Camps' Liberation, 75 Years: Resurrection The "Concentration Camps Liberation, 75 Years: Resurrection" stamp was issued by Israel Post on 21 April 2020. Face valued at ₪8.30, corresponding to the postage rate for an unregistered international 0-100g letter, "Resurrection" features the title page of a report published in September 1945 for the First Congress of the Central Committee of Liberated Jews in Bergen-Belsen. The tab below the stamp shows a group of Jewish children being led out of Florence's Great Synagogue by a Jewish Brigade soldier and several Jewish Agency nurses in September 1944. Blue, gray and orange are the stamp's prominent colors. It was designed by Miri Nistor and Tuvia Kurtz , who have been stamp designers with Israel Post since 2001 and 1998, respectively.
